Certified Flagging Class
Flagger certification prepares you for a card valid four years in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Six-hour class, ATSSA handbook included, open-book test with a passing score of 80%. You must be at least 18 and bring a valid State ID or driver’s license. Card issued the same day.

For flagger students
What the flagging class covers
Class details & materials
- Class is six hours
- Students receive the ATSSA Traffic Control Flagger Certification Handbook, yours to keep
- Bring a highlighter and pen or pencil for notes — the test is open book
- Passing score of 80% earns your Flagger Certification Card the same day
- Students must be at least 18 years of age with valid State ID or driver’s license
Job requirements
- Receive and communicate instructions clearly, firmly and courteously
- Move and maneuver quickly
- Control signaling devices such as paddles
- Understand and apply safe traffic-control practices
- Recognize dangerous traffic situations and warn workers
- Stand for prolonged periods on uneven surfaces, up to 10+ hours
